Saturday Longshots and Top Picks for Woodbine

LONESPEED HORSE

The Woodbine Mile card steals the show this weekend.  Let’s dive right in and talk about most-likely winners and longshots that can spice things up.

Race 6- The Sweet Briar Too

On one hand, it feels like Mark Casse is just trying to find a spot where Victory to Victory can recapture some of the glory she brought the team when she won a Grade 1 here at Woodbine as a 2yo.  She has a couple allowance wins since that day, but the graded stakes tries have been a huge bust.  On the other hand, she sports some fast works over the synth recently, and this will be her first try on that surface.  Don’t go all in here, but Victory to Victory is one I would not ignore if I were you.

Race 8- The Woodbine Mile

I dare you, in fact I double dare you, to tell me that Delta Prince will be favored over Lord Glitters.  If that happens, I will literally eat the laptop I’m typing this on.  I’m not kidding.  I will grab the laptop, cover it with cheddar cheese, and eat it.  There is no way Lord Glitters DOES NOT go favored in this race.  Especially over Grade 2-winner Delta Prince.  For years now, mediocre Euros have comes to North America and won our best turf races over our best turf horses.  And Delta Price, whom I admire, isn’t even at the top of the pile here.  I will be absolutely stunned if anyone other that Lord Glitters or fellow Euro Stormy Antarctic wins this.  I’ll include Good Samaritan in some wagers just for sanity insurance since I’m a big fan of his.  But this race goes through Europe.

Race 9- The Canadian

I have no clever opinion here whatsoever.  If it’s not going to be Inflexibility or New Money Honey, then I’ll miss this race.  I see what everyone else sees with Niigon’s Eclipse and the early speed angle.  But I don’t think the class is there.  One of the Browns just has to take this I think.  Sorry. You didn’t need me to tell you that.

Race 10- The Bold Venture

I won’t fault anyone who singles Pink Lloyd in here, but I’m planning to try to beat him, while still using him, with a few others.  My interesting, clever, and perhaps foolish opinion in here is Loose On the Town.  Yes, its a bit of a stretch.  But Javy jumps back aboard.  He’s run some really fast races, just not on a synthetic surface.  And if you look at his last as a prep for this off the layoff, then you can sorta make a case for him should Pink Lloyd happen to not fire for some reason.  As with Victory to Victory in Race 6, this is a bit of a hunch play.  But I’m using Loose On the Town.

Race 11- The Northern Dancer

The top pick for me in here is Mekhtaal, but I will absultley be including both Hawkbill and Vexatious from the Drysdale barn.  Vexatious looks like an auto-toss on paper but I can’t see Drysdale sending her if he didn’t think the distance and surface would be up her alley.  But as I said, I think Mehktaal wins this.

Thanks for posting your picks for Woodbine , did you see race 12 has an estimated 1.5 million for the Hi 5. Mandatory payout. I will be betting that one for sure!
