Tourney Talk- A Tale of Two 2nds

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of frustration, it was the age of redemption, it was the season of Kentucky Downs, it was the season of Belmont.

Those of you who follow me on Racing Twitter or here at LoneSpeed probably read about the horrifying Labor Day I had in both the tournament world and in the real wagering world.  No need to rehash it.  But on Thursday, I won a seat into today’s BCBC qualifier on Horseplayers by finishing 2nd of 44 to the offensively impressive score of Ron Ferrise.  The top four yesterday were all “winners”…

In today’s main event, again, I could only muster a 2nd.  This time defeating all but one of 23 foes.  The consolation: $500 in credit.

No real sob story this time.  Although I did the math as best I could using the pool data from Gulfsteam’s 8th race, and I am fairly certain that had Hy Kodiak Warrior gotten up for 2nd as he looked like he would with 1/4 mile to go, it would have been worth enough to me to give me the win.  But, he did’t pull it out at 19-1.

Live to fight another day.  It feels like I have perhaps put the awful summer behind me and am now seeing things more clearly.  I’m not sure where’ll I show up this weekend in the tournament world, but that $1,000 BCBC event on Sunday looks mighty appealing with this free $500 I just got as a conso.

I feel like I’m stalking you. Finished just behind you in both tourneys. I had a very small lead with two races left but needed the 6 to catch your 11 in the last at GP. You’re capping well. Keep it up.
