Firenze Fire- The Final Analysis

The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile will be run around one turn.  And that makes it extra exciting, in my opinion.  For starters, the one-turn aspect it makes it a little more appealing to sprinters than if it were a two-turn race.  And the distance itself means it’s a logical spot for routers who aren’t quite up to the Classic distance of 10 furlongs.  So I love this race.  Lots of people hate it and wish it would go away.  But I love it.

I am also a believer that a one-turn mile is a bit is a bit of a specialist journey.  And I think Firenze Fire is a one-turn mile specialist.

Were it not for the presence of City of Light and Catalina Cruiser, this guy MIGHT be my pick.  I say “might” because it’s hard to say how low his odds would go were those two not in here, and since betting is all about value, maybe I’d go another direction altogether.  Either way, this is one you have to take seriously.  His win in the Gallant Bob may have come against 3-year-olds (and not even the best 3yos at that), but it showed how tenacious he is.  He’s a fighter for sure.  He looked beaten at the top of the lane, got passed, and fought on.  But these waters are deeper now, and as much respect as I have for him, he’s really going to need some luck to win this I think.  But, if you aren’t sold on Catalina Cruiser and maybe you don’t like the post for City of Light, you could do worse than Firenze Fire.

And if you haven’t done so already, be smart and buy this.  You’ll be glad you did.
