Tourney Talk- Saratoga Day 1 Recap and Day 2 Preview
Ugh. Today was not my day. Just like every other tournament player out there, I had some good opinions that didn’t quite pan out as I had hoped. The “highlight” for me was in the early double, where I connected with 8-1 Taruca in the opener but needed 12-1 ML Red Curls in the second race, where she actually went off at 9-2 with scratches. Red Curls could manage only 2nd, and I really wasn’t close to anything else the rest of the day. So I finished tied for last with about 100 other people in the Saratoga Challenge, which I’m telling myself was nothing more than a prep for tomorrow’s main event- The Fourstardave Challenge.
I actually have a few pretty strong opinions tomorrow. In Race 2, I’d like to direct your attention to #3 Johny’s Bobby. Note the career debut has produced two next-out winners, and Johny’s Bobby gets first blinkers and first Lasix to go along with what will hopefully be his first fast dirt track coming off a turf route last time and a slop-fest in the career debut.
Later in the card, I absolutely love Yoshida in the featured race of the day. His class should reign supreme against this bunch. And I think Phi Beta Express will be the LONE SPEED in the 9th race, and I suspect he’ll be a bit of a price. I’m still alive, Projected will get my support in the Lure, Race 10.
But the tone for the day will be set early based on what Johny’s Bobby does. I think he’s live and will be a big price. 20-1 on the morning line looks juicy to me. My buddy and LoneSpeed teammate Steve Decaspers just texted me and told me to put my entire $1,000 bankroll on him. I don’t think I have the balls to do that. But if he wins, you’ll see me near the top of the leaderboard early. I’ll guarantee you that.
