Brown Town
We have some serious racehorses making appearances at Parx on Saturday. The highlights are the Cotillion and the Pennsylvania Derby for 3-year-olds. Both with a purse of $1,000,000. Both with Grade 1 status. And I think extra consideration needs to be given to two contenders from the Chad Brown barn who are both double digits on the morning line.
As I wrote yesterday, I think Separationofpowers is headed for a win in the Cotillion followed by a win in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Watch her win in the Test. Just a pure display of talent. You just know Chad Brown is thinking big with this one. She’s had a bit of a struggle stringing wins together throughout her short career, and that’s always a concern. But as well as she has run in her two starts this year off the long layoff, I don’t think we are going to see 10-1 on her. It won’t surprise me if she is the second choice behind Monomoy Girl, ahead of both Wonder Gadot and Midnight Bisou. 4-1 smells like the right price. Of course I’m hoping for better. I absolutely love her chances in the Cotillion.
And, at the risk of repeating more material from the past week or so, I’ll bring up Instilled Regard yet again. Granted, some of the efforts this year appear ho-hum at first glance. But we’ve documented here on LoneSpeed why he’s run better than it looks on paper. Chad Brown has had him for a few months now, and this feels like a live one to me. McKinzie is the obvious favorite and it will surprise no one if he romps. But do not overlook Instilled Regard. I think he’s the second-most-likely winner of the race, and he’ll be a price.
Predicted Final Odds:
Separationofpowers- 4-1
Instilled Regard- 8-1
The Plays (based on a $100 bankroll)
$40 to win on Separationofpowers
$20 double her to Instilled Regard
$20 to win/place on Instilled Regard
