BC Classic FW Pool vs. Saratoga Monday Race 7 Superfecta Pool

In the red corner, we have the entire pool from this past weekend’s Breeders’ Cup Classic Future Wager.

In the blue corner, we have just the superfecta pool from Race 7 at Saratoga on Monday.

Which pool was larger?

It’s been like 20 years since the Kentucky Derby Future Wager was first introduced.  Back then, if you had told me that in 2018 we would still only have the option to wager on 24 individual betting interests, I would not have believed you.  But, it’s a fact.  Still only 24.  And as a result, future wagers of the pari-mutuel variety just don’t capture the dollars they should.  As a result….

The winner is the superfecta pool from Race 7 on Monday at Saratoga.  The tally:

BC FW- $86k

SAR R7 SPR- $95k

I stayed away from the BC Classic Future Wager.  Below are the final odds.  I cannot imagine why anyone would have wagered on my beloved Good Magic given the Classic is at 10 furlongs.  With the wager closing on Sunday night, anyone could have and should have waited to see the running of the Travers.  Still, nearly $5k was bet on Good Magic at 13-1.  In my humble opinion, that was not wise. Accelerate was bet to 3-1, and that’s equally dumb.  Monomoy Girl at 79-1 isn’t awful.  I doubt she goes in the Classic but with a win at CD, why not take a stab?
