From a handicapping standpoint, the first two legs of the Triple Crown have been poor for LoneSpeed. Kentucky Derby top pick Spinoff spun his wheels in the Churchill Downs mud and finished near the back of the pack. In the Preakness, Bourbon War threw in an incredibly poor performance and was a non-factor after being bet down from the 12-1 morning line.
From a Fantasy Horse Racing standpoint, it’s been a great Triple Crown. In fact, we already won our 5-man league thanks to Country House and War of Will both being on our roster.
And from a financial standpoint, our $11,000 Derby trifecta score has meant this will be a profitable Triple Crown regardless of what happens on Saturday.
Our Belmont Stakes wagers will center around three horses, with one of them being the focal point. And that one horse is Spinoff.
I hated reading that Todd Pletcher wasn’t happy with Spinoff’s pre-Derby workout in the slop at Churchill Downs. It would have been nice to know he didn’t like an off track before I bet him to win over the quagmire on Derby Day. I think we can toss the Derby dud and focus on the rest of the package. I love his chances on Saturday, and in early wagering, he’s a juicy 12-1. Spinoff is my top pick.
I also like Tacitus, like everyone else. He looks like the one to beat.
Intrepid Heart is also interesting. He had a bad start in his last and still ran ok.
